Revisionism
Essentially, revisionism is diddling about with an established story or genre to make a point. In a revisionist Star Wars, for instance, the Emperor would be a misunderstood politician battling an oppressive religious cult. Revisionism is a popular technique in modern Westerns, which portray America’s six-gun toting pioneer years as a cesspool of greed and racism.
