....drawing chubby mermaids and trying to get a pose right whiles listening to the new Wu-Tang album as well as the soundtracks for the Godfather movies.  I'll have one illustration done by the end of tonight. Here's the rough

I've found that decreasing my sugar intake had substantially increased my concentration span.  I can actually get stuff done with out being distracted.

Sugar, or my large intake of sugar appears to be my achilles heel. Of all things in the world, bloody sugar.
Shiiiit.

Well, better to find out now than later, eh?

Did you post a scan here? I don't see a picture although I'd love to see something. :)

I see it. Nice! I like the voluptuous mermaid. Very cool.

You mean, do I want to critique it?

Well, looking at this and the inked piece, I like the head position in this one better. I like her looking to the side as opposed to looking up. One has some mystery, the other just seems a little too happy.

I think there are bits here where she loses her femininity to more masculine features. The penciled version has more masculine shoulders but you've corrected that in the inked version.

I think the head is a bit small, overall. With the foreshortening, her breasts are gonna be bigger than her head. Which is not totally unlikely, but it seems that in this case, her head is too small for her body.

Finally, I think you would do well to add as much detail to the hair as you have the excellently rendered body shading.

And I really do like this composition.

Cheers. For that mate. Much appreciated. I've started doing more work on the image almost as soon as I posted it. I'll post the new version tonight. Currently in trying to render an underwater scene in ink and I'm finding it very difficult.

I hear ya. I struggle with the same kinds of issues. It's easy to conceive of an interesting composition but rendering something like "hair under water" or something the likes of which you don't see everyday, can be tricky in practice.

Your chubby mermaid is lovely - perfectly glorious. Of course they would need to be chubby to survive the ocean's icy cold - like whales and walruses...

Cheers, mate. And good point. You wait until I finish inking the piece. It'll look even more majestic.
